For many top chefs, charcoal is one of the secret ingredients that make up the unmatched and typical Big Green Egg taste. For this reason, Big Green Egg has had its own mixes put together. The premium charcoal is made from a mixture of oak and hickory, which greatly enhances the taste of the dishes. The 100% environmentally friendly charcoal (without chemical additives, flavors and fragrances) quickly reaches a high heating temperature and can also keep it well. The relatively large pieces burn for a long time, but, unlike many other types of charcoal, produce very little ash and provide a subtle smoky taste. One load of charcoal can EGG for an average of four to six hours at a constant temperature.
