Years ago, a handful of pig breeders led by the Dutch Frans de Rond began crossbreeding different breeds. Only by mating the typical Dutch “Landschwein” with the Schw\u00e4bisch-H\u00e4llisch, the English Essex-Saddleback, and the American Duroc pig they achieved a promising result: LiVar. <\/p>\n
In search of an authentic environment where the LiVar pigs can grow up in a species-appropriate manner, just like the traditional breeds, the breeders chose the Abtei Lilbosch in Echt, Limburg. The monks of the “Zisterzienserordens” have always been experts in raising pigs and cattle. The monks who still live at the Abtei Lilbosch today are also dedicated to this work. <\/p>\n
